Heartbleed bug and Web Security
If you didn’t hear about it, you must have spent the last week on a deserted island, as there was certainly no news outlet that missed the opportunity to contribute to the Heartbleed scare.
In short, Heartbleed is a security bug in the open source SSL encryption library that can potentially allow the knowledgeable attacker to decrypt the traffic coming to and from the server. The problem here is that often the encrypted traffic contains the sensitive information, such as user passwords and so on. It was estimated that some 17 percent (around half a million) of the Web servers around the world were vulnerable to the attach.
Following the discovery of the bug, I immediately tested MikS Music’s server with Geotrust’s SSL checking tool. I am extremely glad to report that MikS Music Web shop is not vulnerable to the Heartbleed bug.
As additional security measures, I have upgraded to a new security plug-in and extended the SSL encryption to cover the entire client area (My Account page and beyond) in addition to the already encrypted login page.
